I’ve decided to share my morning routine with you for a few reasons. For one, I’ve recently started oil pulling in the morning and I am so excited to share the benefits with you. Secondly, it’s something that I’ve been working on for a while and trying to make better and simpler. This means that hopefully, other people might benefit from a few things I’ve learned. Finally I can’t wait to share with you some cruelty-free products that work for me and, of course, my love for those green smoothies 🙂

At the moment I have a normal skin type with good circulation and no trace of sebum (or oil) on the tissue. My skin is mostly soft, with a smooth, even skin tone.

I would say the biggest reason why this is the case is because I drink a green smoothie almost every morning, I exercise at least 3 times a week (cycling, jogging, yoga and dancing), and I use products on my face that are mild, organic and natural (Green People, Rosewater & Glycerin)

I try to keep things simple. My morning routine usually consists of a few steps listed below, but this varies greatly on time of year, weekends and weekday chaos:

I always cleanse, moisture, and apply sunscreen. I use the brand “Green People” and have been using them for over 4 years. I am simply in love with their extraordinary organic skin care range. When you go on their website there are hundreds of testimonials from other people who have been using their products and have been transformed literally 🙂 Click Here for more info

The thing is, our skin eats what’s on it so it’s important to apply products on your skin that you are comfortable eating or you have researched and know are good for your skin.

CLEANSER: I use a gentle cleanser in the morning and evening. Gel cleansers typically make my face feel tight and dry after using them, so I avoid those. I also don’t use anything like soap (including liquid Dr. Bronner’s, pH of 8) to wash my face. Currently using the brand Green People which works great for me at any time of year. To moisturize my face I use the vitamin fix 24 hour cream by Green People

BODY MOISTURIZER: I generally look for something that’s very hydrating and easily gets absorbedGlycerin and Rose water Thumbnail real by my skin. I’ve been using  Glycein and Rosewater for a few years now and it never disappoints when it comes to combating dry skin on my body -not the face – (reviewed and recipe here). I also love using a mixture of Shea butter, Coconut oil, Avocado Oil and Olive oil. I add all the oils in a wide mouth glass jar and melt them in hot water (not boiling) until they are well combined. Whala! That’s how easy it is to create your own moisturizer. I only use oils when I have just stepped out of  the shower because I find that when my skin is not damp they don’t get absorbed very well.

SUNSCREEN: I wear sunscreen under my foundation every day, with an SPF of at least 30 — There is a great article about the importance of wearing sunscreen here! For a few years now I have been loving the sunscreen scent free sun lotion

Coconut oil on a bamboo mat

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an EMPTY stomach for around 20 minutes first thing in the morning. Some reported benefits are:

  1. It draws out toxins in your body
  2. Promotes stronger teeth and gums
  3. Produces whiter teeth
  4. Kills bad breath etc.

Personally, I have been oil pulling since the 19th of November 2015. The only question on my mind now is why I haven’t tried this sooner. I used to have gum ache on the right side of my jaw due to receding gums and bacteria build up, but since doing the oil pulling method I have experienced immense benefits. One being, I hardly feel pain when I eat sweet foods and my tongue feels cleaner and healthier.

I also don’t have bad breath in the mornings anymore. “Thank heavens!” my fiance would probably say and best part is that I don’t bleed as much as I used to, but I think that is also because I floss more consistently now.

If you are curious about trying it out I highly recommend it. Why not do it for a week and see for yourself the amazing benefits

  • First, pick an oil. Most people use coconut oil as it also has strong antibacterial properties, morning routine cruelty free .Still003 Then, take a tablespoon of oil and swish it around your mouth for 20 – 25 minutes.

(Note: The oil will almost double in size as it draws in saliva as well as the toxins. Be sure not to swallow as you will be taking these toxins into your body)

  • Once the 20 minutes are up, spit the oil out into the trash (not your sink, where the oil may solidify and block up the drain) and swish your mouth with warm salt water. Finally, brush and floss as you normally would.

IMG_1788Drinking lemon water is also extremely beneficial. I have recently started adding fresh minced turmeric and ginger in the lemon water. Turmeric helps against inflammation and ginger helps relieve digestive problems.

Method: Add the juice of half a lemon in room temperature water and gallop.  The vitamin C in lemons helps to boost your immune system, the citrus helps to kickstart digestion and generally it helps to detox your body.
